Today we crossed the 100 km mark. We are only four days away from Santiago!
As a matter of fact, our room for the night is just after the first mojone (milestone) with a distance to Santiago which is smaller than 100 km.
It’s nice to see that all our efforts are starting to pay off.
Today was the last stage under 20 km that we planned and it went fairly smoothly, even though we started to walk quite late, at around 9 AM.
This was mainly due to a very heavy dinner. We managed to find our pulpo, but it came at the cost of a disrupted digestion process. To be fair to the innocent octopus, our troubles were probably due mostly to the tabla de queso (mixed servings of cheese) that we had prior to the pulpo a la feira.
Since we knew that today’s stage was not a difficult one, we took it easy. We made several stops to take pictures of either interesting plants or birds.
Laura found some hoopoes and even a small nest of tiny birds while foraging some blackberries from a bush.
Strangely enough, today we saw more chickens than cows. It’s probably the first day that this has happened.
I really enjoyed walking through the Galician countryside today. We went through some beautiful forests and tiny villages. Each was beautiful in its own right.
Tomorrow will be different. It will be our first 25 km stage in a long while.
I’m sure we’ll be fine, but it will still be a tough nut to crack, given the injuries that we are still nursing.
Now it’s time to get some dinner again.
We’ll try and stay on the lighter and healthier side of the menu today, but it won’t be easy.
Cheers.
