Camino ’24: Day 11

Today was the perfect day for walking: the weather was cloudy and chilly, the stage was full of beautiful sights and not too much asphalt, and the overall mileage not too high.

And yet, I feel spent tonight. Tired.

My head was spinning when I got out of the shower.

Two ways of traveling: by highway or by pilgrim way

We started out at a good pace but the way the different towns and bars were placed today took us by surprise: we managed to have a fairly generous breakfast quite early, but then went on without eating anything until 4 PM, when we reached our destination: Ribadesella.

Actually, our pension tonight is more than 2 km South of Ribadesella, out of the Camino. This meant we had to carry a lot of groceries and water for about a further 30 minutes, on top of our 20+ km walk we had already completed. Not pleasant at all.

The Playa of Sant’Antolin

Laura’s knee is still a worry of ours. We’ve been thinking about the next few days and when it would be the best time for a rest day.

The right answer to that question would have been about a week ago, to be honest, but we’ve been hanging on admirably.

A wall with many painted stones

The accommodation situation is awful. All the hostels are booked, and other pensions, hotels etc. are getting more and more expensive. August is taking its toll.

We will keep going on however.

We will find a way.
