What are our knees good for, anyways? I’m sure we can all spare one, since we have two of them.
Today was a proving day for our capability to walk a full stage, and a difficult one at that. The verdict was clear: not ready yet.
My pain from yesterday is still there. We had some big elevation changes today and, after a small grace period of about one hour, I felt pain in every step going up, and in every step going down.
Laura is also not feeling 100% today, so we’ve called it a day at around lunch time. Since our bed for the night is a bit further away, we’ll take a small shortcut by train.
I am of a mind of going to the beach tomorrow, or the day after that if it rains, and take a full day off for rest and recovery.
We’ve seen so many beautiful beaches and we only had a dip once. In a few days we’ll enter Galicia and it will be goodbye to the ocean until Finisterre.
I have mixed feelings about today. On the one hand side I’m glad we walked, even at a slow pace. On the other hand, something is telling me that until we recover from our different injuries or pain, it will be difficult to reach Santiago on time.
We’ll do our best. As I said, I believe one knee per person is more than enough. My left leg is not even my dominant leg. I guess I can afford to lose a knee, should push come to shove.
Just kidding. Maybe.
So far the Asturias have been quite beautiful and welcoming. I have a feeling I would like to come back at some point, same with Cantabria.
But that’s an issue for the next few years. We still have to decide what to do tomorrow, here on the Camino.
Depending on how our different bodies will trouble us, we will make a decision.
