A few pictures from my visit to Omaha beach in March 2016.

Impressive place, it’s so quiet now that it’s almost difficult to imagine that thousands of lives were lost in just a few hours on June 6th, 1944.

Once I got on the actual shore, though, and saw the small hills garrisoned by the German soldiers, I could feel how little the odds of surviving an assault were, especially during the first “waves”.

We rarely realize how lucky we are to live in a continent that has seen peace for the last decades.

Let’s keep it that way.
